I'm currently spending most of my working hours creating new product introduction training for the consumer retail sales industry. I am typically provided copy and media on the product, and I am tasked with producing a short training for the audience.
Retail Sales; New Product - Articulate RISE HTML builder
These micro learning courses are created in “bite size chunks” for the learner. When housed on a Learning Management System (LMS) the course tracks learner participation and progress, allowing the participant to leave and return as they please, creating an asynchronous, on demand learning solution. These courses are designed with low level interaction and assessment and provide the key information about the product in order to respect the many other training courses retail sales associates are expected to consume during their working hours.

Sometimes even though information is readily available, it must re-purposed into a learning module in order to best track participation. Other times, the information is available but it is presented without a proper structure or flow, or not applying adult learning principles. To demonstrate my ability to create an eLearning and sales tools from provided copy and media, I have recycled the website product page of the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 tent.
Periodically I develop larger courses to be part of a curriculum or to represent an educational topic. These courses cover more material and are usually longer, and typically require a deeper level of assessment and engagement. It is common for these courses to be designed to be extremely custom, which adds to the development time but also to the learner’s experience.
Skill Development - Canvas LMS (HTML builder)
During my ILT Masters experience at UC Denver we were presented with the task to create a mini course on a topic of interest. You can read more about the below course build and my decision on this topic in greater detail here.
Skill & Behavior Development & Reinforcement - Articulate Storyline
During my ILT Masters experience at UC Denver we were presented with the task of creating a custom eLearning module on a topic of interest in which we were already the subject matter expert. I love the outdoors and have enjoyed being part of a community-driven website and app company that promotes camping and getting outside. I designed an interactive module to educate current and new members of this company’s ambassador program on their roles and responsibilities, as well as provide best practice tips for improved quality results. You can read more about the development here.
Imagining Learning in the Future - RISE (HTML Builder)
During my ILT Masters experience at UC Denver we were presented with the task of imagining what the world of education will look like in the not too distant future. I happened to be reading Ready Player One at the time, which takes place in 2046 and there are some chapters at the beginning of the book describing the protagonist’s day at school through a virtual reality headset. You can read more about my project and the background here.
